There are around 18 operational zoological parks in Ukraine all now beginning to feel the bite of the invasion.
Kyiv Zoo is just one of the zoo’s in crisis amid the Russian advance toward the capital, but zoo keepers have no plans to evacuate animals.
The zoo accommodates 4,000 animals, including elephants, camels and gorillas and its curator Kyrylo Trantin says they will all remain in the capital.
“It’s almost impossible to evacuate animals, because it’s impossible to provide appropriate veterinary service and transportation of cages,” We need to try and raise funds to keep food and supplies coming in. Many of the keepers have not went home since the begening of the invasion to try and reassure the animals in their care..
Kyrylo says elephants and other vulnerable animals are given sedatives to calm them down when shooting & bombing happens.
World of Owls has reached out to all the facilities and UAZA to try and raise funds and awareness to aid the animals in the war zone.
Half the world is rallying to aid the Ukrainian people, World of Owls wish to aid the ones that cant ask for your help, THE ANIMALS.
